A Weekend at the Outer Banks

A Weekend at the Outer Banks

I hope you all had a great Mother's Day weekend! Motherhood may be tough at times but it's a blessing and well worth it. This past weekend my family and I went on a little getaway to the Outer Banks aka OBX.  The Outer Banks are barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, separating the Atlantic Ocean from the mainland. It's much different from other beaches such as Virginia and Myrtle Beach. It's more low key and relaxing, they have more beach houses and it's not commercialized.

The last time I came to the Outer Banks I was a kid so coming back as an adult was exciting and relaxing. They may not have as many attractions as Myrtle Beach, but they have a lot of outdoor activities for families such as dolphin cruises, water sports, lighthouse tours and etc. My kids and nephews really enjoyed themselves. It was a short stay, so we mainly enjoyed our time on the beach, eating out, grilling, and walking the pier.

We stayed in a nice little cottage that was one house away from the beach, so we had easy access to get to the beach. Since it was 10 of us, a house was more suitable than a hotel. I loved the neighborhood because it was quiet, and everyone was friendly. A lot of the houses are for rent and I noticed a lot of older people who live in the Outer Banks. So, it's a great spot for retirement. The beach itself is relaxing to watch and it's sooooooo many shells and corals that are washed on shore. My kids collected so many unique shells. The water is gorgeous it not that murky color like how some beaches are; its clearer and you can see what's in the water. The weather was nice as well and if you don't like to be in a crowded or congested area when you travel to the beach then the Outer Banks is the perfect place for you. By it being the off season still it wasn't crowded at all.

I also did a mini photo-shoot. I created some shorts inspired by the In the Bag Wide-Leg Pants. They are the same concept, but they are just shorts and I'm so in love with them! I made them in a twill floral print with navy blue, red and orange colors and a lightweight medium tone jean fabric.

I also created this trendy jumpsuit. I wanted to make something that would be perfect for the beach. It's super breezy, lightweight, and its over-sized so its extra roomy and comfortable. the matching waist belt adds a special touch to it as well. My husband took theses photos by the way, he's becoming my very own photographer lol! I'm thinking of adding this as a new item (using a different fabric pattern) on the website...hmmmm. what do you all think?

Overall, I had a great Mother's Day weekend. It's my first Mother's Day that I spent at the beach. I'm glad I got the time to spend with my family. As I get older I'm enjoying the more simpler things such as just relaxing! I will most definitely be re-visiting the OBX soon. How was your Mother's Day weekend? Did you go anywhere? Let me know in the comments!
Also stay tuned for a behind the 'seams' video of me creating the Paper Bag High Waist Shorts. See me in action lol! Make sure you subscribe to my website so you don't miss special promotions.
